Movie Folder Structure Guide

Folder structure is the skeleton of your offline media library. Get it wrong and metadata breaks, search fails, and every new download creates debt. Get it right once and every movie organizer app — including MyBinge — works better forever.

This guide defines the folder structure standards for movies, TV shows, anime, and personal videos on Android.

Core principles

• **Shallow top level** — three to five root folders, not twenty
• **One title per movie folder** — no flat dumps of hundreds of files
• **Predictable names** — Movie Title (Year) everywhere
• **Separation by type** — movies, TV, and personal video never mixed
• **Genre in metadata, not paths** — avoid `Movies/Action/` trees

Movies folder structure

Each movie gets its own folder:

Rules:

• Folder name includes release year in parentheses
• Primary file mirrors folder title
• Quality tags after title: `1080p`, `x265`, `BluRay`
• Extras subfolder for bonus content only

TV Shows folder structure

Episode naming patterns that parse well:

• `Show Name S01E01.ext`
• `Show Name - 1x01.ext`
• `Show Name Season 01 Episode 01.ext`

Anime folder structure

Option A — dedicated Anime root:

Option B — under TV Shows with tag in app. Pick one convention and stay consistent.

Personal Videos folder structure

Personal videos may not match TMDB. Flat descriptive names work better than Movie Title (Year) format.

What not to do

• `Movies/Action/`, `Movies/Comedy/` genre trees
• Single folder with 500 loose `.mkv` files
• Mixing `.mp4` and `.mkv` duplicates in same folder without labels
• Changing folder names after metadata matched without rescanning
